Hi Everyone ~ Come with your friends to
"Arts & Carafes" on September 24th at the Country Club to enjoy a great time
and help Kalo...all for only $50 per person!
Park Ridge is home to a number of historic mail-order
houses. Annie Eriksson, a member of the Kalo Foundation and resident
researcher, has put together a blog showing some of these homes.
Carpenter's
father, George B. Carpenter, was the first village president in 1873, who named Park Ridge; his mother was a direct
descendent of Puritan John Alden. The composer was internationally famous
and with his wife traveled the world, partially as inspiration for his music
and partially because "everyone knew them." They had one child, a daughter,
about whom Adventures in a Perambulator is written portraying her
experiences in a baby carriage in Lincoln Park about 1914, e.g. movements
include The Lake, Hurdy Gurdy, The Policeman, Dogs, etc. This very
listenable music, beautifully recorded in 2001, has been called a precursor
to Gershwin's 'American In Paris.'
