Hi - Park Ridge became a City in 1910. Accordingly
Celebrations are planned for 2010.
You'll undoubtedly want to partake of these festivities which begin with the
Kalo Foundation's cultural heritage exhibits and programs -- aptly named It
Starts With The Arts -- daily from May 9-22, 2010. All but a couple of our
events are FREE and will be held at the newly christened Nonprofit Center,
720 W. Garden St (formerly The Pantry) just in back of the District 64
building on S. Prospect (formerly the Post Office).
There are about twenty varied programs. Sample these offerings in the
following paragraphs. Dates, times & details for all are shown on the
attached/printable PDF and at http://www.kalofoundation.org/
But also know, the most significant and comprehensive collection of Park
Ridge creativity ever exhibited in one place will be open for you between
scheduled program times. Docents are available if you or your group --
school classes, church circles, scout troops, groups of Seniors, service
clubs, etc. -- would like a personal guide to the rare collection of art and
artifacts on display.
Here's a bit more about the programs. One batch is scheduled every week-day
at Noon for an hour. A exceptional range of expert speakers are booked for
these 'Brown Bag Lunch' chats -- i.e. bring your sandwich...or we'll have a
few there for sale -- and hear something fascinating and rewarding about our
town. Topic Examples: Architectural treasures, Kupjack miniatures, Carpenter
music, Art Colony characters, Iannelli insights, Silversmithing legends,
plus more than brevity permits listing here.
A second batch of programs can be enjoyed many evenings, for an hour
starting at 7:30PM. These feature local notables, e.g. an historian explains
How to Research Your Home's history, see and hear a world-class
Photographer, admire Maine South student Sterling Silver work, Q&A with an
'Encyclopedia of Chicago' editor, be there when a famed Charicaturist 'Shows
& Tells,' and (in response to requests) the popular 'Burt & Herb Show'
repeats once.
I probably should have mentioned at the top that there's also batch of good
stuff occuring both weekends. Come to a classy catered Mother's Day Tea
(break-even fee), including a renowned speaker on Sears' Homes, plus a
housewalk of three &/or drive-by ID of the umpteen mail-order houses in
town. Kalo silver will top the agenda the following Sunday with Chicago's
foremost expert speaking at the Library, private pieces at the Solari &
Huntington store (small fee), plus more at the Nonprofit Center. Both
Saturdays likewise are filled, the first with Kids' Day face-painting &
cartooning in the morning and later a talk on P.R. architecture. The next
Saturday is your last chance to visit our Cultural Heritage display, 'Meet &
Greet' Local Authors (children's, mystery, more) and take narrated Taxi
Tours (flat fee) around town.
Again, to learn more about visiting the exhibits and attending the programs,
please see/print the attached 8.5"x11" PDF. Then when you've selected
everything you or your group want to book, go to our website: http://www.kalofoundation.org/
Registration on the web is the only way to guarantee your access. Attendance
Is Limited to 49.
Spread the Word. 'Hope to see you there. Herb Zuegel - Kalo Board
P.S. - The font used in this message is Goudy Old Style. It's probably on
your computer too and was an international sensation when introduced. Did
you know it was created here on S. Prospect Avenue?
As space is limited, we invite you to make a reservation for the activities
that you would like to attend.
